Common Redpoll, Sullivan County, NY, Feb 16th. This bird was discovered on the ground, only 2 ft away from where I was standing. We thought it was in distress, but it soon hopped out of the shrubs and onto the snow, interacted briefly with a chickadee, then flew off to the feeders. We concluded that it was probably ok, but given the recent report of a Salmonella outbreak affecting redpolls downstate, I am now beginning to wonder. This is a full frame shot.
